Jensen’s meets Jetsons

ECHO PARK - A new, space-age-like chandelier now hangs over the lobby of the historic Jensen's Recreation Center on Sunset Boulevard. The new chandelier may not reflect the brick building's vintage style but it certainly does make for a fancy entrance.

Councilman Tom LaBonge will be leaving office at the end of the month, termed out after representing Council District 4 for nearly 15 years. But before LaBonge, a Silver Lake resident, leaves City Hall behind and is replaced by newcomer David Ryu, his office wants to give $242,500 to a variety of organizations and groups.

Hundreds of people showed up at a public hearing last week to speak against the state's $68 billion bullet train that would slice its way through their communities. Their complaints and concerns about noise, vibration and disruption might also be shared by the residents of Atwater Village, Cypress Park, Glassell Park and Lincoln Heights who live near the proposed bullet train route.
