SILVER LAKE -- The drone of helicopters filled the sky this afternoon above the Silver Lake Reservoir as water-dropping choppers pumped up water to drop on a brush fire in nearby Glendale. But where will those thirsty fire department choppers go after the reservoir is drained this summer for at least a year?
ECHO PARK - More stops signs have been installed on Academy Road and Scott Avenue to provide a safer crossing for pedestrians using the fire roads and trails from Elysian Park. The signs were installed a few months after stop signs were put up nearby at Academy Road and Morton Avenue.

SILVER LAKE -- City officials and family members are scheduled on Friday morning to unveil a plaque naming the intersection of West Silver Lake Drive and Rowena Avenue in honor of Joseph Anthony Gatto, a long-time resident and arts instructor who was shot dead in his Silver Lake home in November 2013.

Looks like President Obama will be swinging through parts of Eagle Rock and Highland Park on Friday as part of a two-day visit to Los Angeles that begins this afternoon. In between fundraisers and other appearances, the President is scheduled to be interviewed for an hour in the Highland Park home studio of comedian Marc Maron for his WTF With Marc Maron podcast, according A.V. Club.
