LAFD responding to Echo Park camper fire

ECHO PARK — Firefighters were on the scene tonight of a recreational vehicle that was engulfed in flames on Glendale Boulevard next to Echo Park Lake.

The camper was seen burning before 8 p.m. on Glendale Boulevard south of Santa Ynez Street. No word on whether anyone was injured.

  1. I was right there, about 10 minutes after the firefighters arrived. No ambulances. Looked like the fire was in the engine, and there was stuff pulled out of the camper and a guy within the perimeter going through it – I expect it was his.

    There are a few folks with campers hanging around the lake these days – not sure if this was one of them, or just someone driving by.

    There was a super-odd incident at the same time, though. A women at the N end of the lotus bed was pouring oil on the lotuses and on palm fronds and putting them on the surface of the lake. Looked like a possible arson attempt – we did let the firefighters at the other event know what we’d seen and pointed her out to them, they said they would follow up with that before they left. There was oil on the lotuses and on the lake surface, visibly. Can’t be good for the plants.
