ECHO PARK — A pair of 15-year-old skateboarders were struck by a hit-and-run driver Friday night, with one of the victims left in extremely critical condition after being thrown or dragged about 75 feet up Alvarado Street, according to police. The other teen suffered only minor injuries.

The two males were crossing  Alvarado Street at Montrose Street when they were hit by a small, white SUV or wagon traveling northbound, said Sgt. Jesse Garcia with the LAPD Central Traffic Division.  The driver did not stop after the collision, Garcia said. “He kept on going like nothing happened.”

Alvarado remained blocked off in both directions at midnight as police conducted the investigation about two hours after the collision.

Update: The 15-year-old victim, Christian Donis, has been declared brain dead.

  1. Two helicopters been circling low over area, somewhat south of scene

  2. Witnessed this accident. It was truly horrendous. Hope those kids are OK.

    • Andrea, One is in hospital in extremely critical condition, other seems to be okay after treatment. If there is anything you or other witnesses can tell police it might help them get the driver.

  4. More road diets more crosswalks more signals. this city is designed by LADOT and BOE engineers that live in the suburbs.

    • Agreed…. Maximizing traffic speeds in the middle of the city is negligent. Victims of these incidents should start suing the DOT, BOE, CalTrans, etc. for engineering neighborhood streets to double as mini-freeways at rush hour. So much of this daily carnage on our streets is entirely preventable.

  5. Keep your eyes open for possible white, 2012-2014, Toyota Venza compact SUV per police via ABC online. (last night ABC was the only site, besides our Eastsider, to consider this important enough to follow.)

They are two fifteen year-old boys who were on skateboards…one in very critical condition. Sending good thoughts their way.

  6. I live near by . Just Thursday night I seen a drunk driver hit a car. The driver was just getting into his car the drunk driver ran the drivers door the guy kept driving didn’t even stop we had to chase him. Turns out he was drunk. There is allot of drunk drivers around this area. I get that echo park is changing but all its doing is bringing in bars and restaurants and drunk drivers . Something needs to be done, especially on Alvarado and sunset.
