Echo Park lotus can’t wait for Lotus Festival

ECHO PARK — The 35th Annual Echo Park Lotus Festival will be held this weekend at Echo Park Lake. But the showy lotus have already been in bloom for the past few weeks, mesmerizing park visitors with their pink and cream-colored blooms.

The festival, which is designed to celebrate Asian cultures, is scheduled to include live musical performances, food booths, dragon boat races and other activities. But for lotus lovers, the aquatic plants blooming in the northwest corner of the lake will remain the star attraction.
