Power service was knocked out to portions of Echo Park, Lincoln Heights and Mount Washington today as powerful thunderstorms moved across the Los Angeles area. ABC7 reported that a total of about 10,000 people across L.A. County lost power because of lightning strikes.
On the Eastside, more than 1,500 LADWP customers were at one point without power today. The utility’s outage map also showed that more than 1,000 customers in Echo Park, where two separate lighting strikes set trees on fire, had lost electricity, with full service not expected to be restored until 7:30 p.m.
Another 275 locations in Mount Washington also lacked power. Service was not expected to be fully restored until 7:30 p.m. Minor outages had also been reported in East Hollywood, El Sereno and Silver Lake.
