ECHO PARK — A collision this afternoon on Sunset Boulevard involving three vehicles sent a parked pickup truck rolling over on its side and smashing into a sidewalk dining area in front of an Echo Park restaurant. No injuries were reported.

None of the tables outside Masa of Echo Park were occupied at the time of the collision, which took place after 2 p.m. at the corner of Sunset and Lemoyne Street. But the smashed truck blocked the entrance of the restaurant, which was forced to close as some patrons and staff left through the back.

“We didn’t hear any screeching, just a thud,” said restaurant co-owner Rhonda Reynolds. “I thought it was an earthquake.”

According to persons near the crash, a Honda Element traveling eastbound on Sunset struck the parked pickup truck, owned by a restaurant employee, which overturned and was thrown into the sidewalk. A second parked vehicle was also damaged.

The driver in the Element remained at the scene as police investigated the crash.

  1. this is why I never in the outside areas/sidewalks

  2. This is what happens when we treat every street like a freeway!! Slow the fuck down and get off the phone!!

    • completely agree. slow down in Echo Park. Especially up Echo Park Ave. People are running stop sign at chango and flying up the hill. No reason to go over 30 in a neighborhood. Even if you have a nice new car. Sunset is for cruising. Take it easy. Be safe. If i see you flipped over in a coffee shop I’m going to yell at you.

  3. Glad Rhonda , her staff, and her customers are ok.

    • Tony the Main Spoon

Going that direction, drivers do haul some serious tail around that bend of Sunset blvd. Glad the staff and patrons are ok.

  4. I’m tired of cyclists running red lights. If they want to be treated the same as drivers, then they need to follow the rules like drivers do.

    • Agree, but what does that have to do with this article?

      • If the city spent focused all of its attention on cyclist scofflaws, incidents like this would not happen. Cyclists are responsible for 98% of all traffic related incidents in LA County.

    • I agree. Cyclists should be held to the same standard of law as drivers. I also think the Dodgers should not have gotten rid of Uribe. And, fwiw, Zuma is my favorite local beach.

Now, lets talk about this accident on Sunset.

  5. Oh wow something happened! It must be those bicyclists! They are destroying my suburban dream!

  6. Clearly the Rowena road diet is responsible.
