Eagle Rock dogs may finally get a park of their own

eagle rock dog park siteEAGLE ROCK — Councilman Jose Huizar wants the Recreation & Parks Department to study the feasibility of  building an off-leash dog park on the grounds of the Eagle Rock Recreation Center.

The dog park would be located  north of the baseball fields along Figueroa Street in an area that is described as “under-utilized” but accessible to parking and removed from homes, according to Huizar’s City Council motion.  The site was identified by Dogs of the Rock, a neighborhood group, that has collected 2,000 signatures and pledges of $5,000 in support of the park.  Says the motion:

Construction of a dog park at Eagle Rock Recreation Center would provide a safe environment where where owners could let their dogs off leash, providing a huge benefit to the community as a whole.

Huizar’s motion, which must still be approved by the full City Council, also requests that Recreation & Parks also estimate construction and maintenance costs.
