SILVER LAKE –– Looks like a fire hydrant got clipped at Sunset Boulevard and Lucille Avenue this morning. Patrick Pascal emailed over a photo at about 6:30 a.m. showing a gusher of water shooting above the utility poles.

Update: CBS2 reports that a driver struck the fire hydrant shortly before 4 a.m. He was arrested on suspcion of driving under the influence.

  1. Internet outrage scale….: Drunk driver crashed off the road into a fire hydrant, danger to public safety and huge waste of city resources (DWP,LAPD,LAFD). Closed Sunset blvd for hours…. no one cares….two stories up the Rowena road diet gets people foaming at the mouth, I think everyone has their priorities mixed up.

  2. The road diet was a plan. It is being questioned due to flaws and proposed expansion. It is doubtful that the driver planned to run into a hydrant or go to jail. Anomaly and an accident.

Big difference between the 2 issues.

  3. This could solve the drought problem. We need more drunk drivers to explore these sources of underground water.
