A six-story residential building is planned for 1614-1626 Temple Street

ECHO PARK – Another multi-story residential complex is in the works for Temple Street on the southern end of Echo Park,  an area where several large apartment projects have recently been completed or are under construction.

A six-story building with 55 residential units would be located in the 1600 block of Temple Street near Glendale Boulevard, across from a recently completed, 49-unit apartment complex and down the block from  a 69-unit apartment building now under construction.

A Planning Department summary says that the developer is seeking a zoning change to build the project, which would contain more than 2,700-square-feet of commercial space, 63 parking spaces for motor vehicles and 63 spaces for bikes.

The property is currently occupied by a parking lot and a one-story commercial building.

  1. Well, if it has some mixed use, that’s good. There are some stretches of temple that are too empty.

  2. There should be more mixed use along that whole corridor, and it’s a far better use of space than a empty lot. I don’t think 6 storey is out of character with the neighborhood, a bit bigger than most but definitely not overwhelming. I look forward to seeing the proposed design scheme.

    • That is NOT an empty lot. It is a lawyer’s office. This current wave of approvals by the planning department in this neighborhood is sickening.

    • Although I tend to agree with this corridor being developed, they should DEFINITELY be within the Zoning Guidelines. With one exception comes another and another and soon you have a mini Wilshire Blvd. Also, this street has no infrastructure to uphold all of this development- this is what the biggest concern (ie- the streets being wide enough, pipes being updated, etc…) Much more research needs to be done here. .

  3. Future PROJECTS of L.A. in 20 or so years this will be the new slums.

  4. With LAPD Metro SWAT soon moving into new headquarters constructed on the site of the old Rampart Station on Temple Street at Benton Way, current and future residents of the neighborhood will feel more secure.

  5. As long as it isn’t another tax exempt “church” being built I’m fine with this development. It doesn’t seem overly large and mixed use seems appropriate.
