EAST LOS ANGELES — Three cars collided outside St. Alphonsus Catholic Church this morning in the 500 block of south Atlantic Boulevard, leaving one car partially on the sidewalk.

C.J. Salgado, who took photos of the scene after 9 a.m., said there appeared to be no serious injuries, but morning traffic was backed up as Los Angeles County Sheriff deputies responded and tow trucks were called to clear vehicles from the street.

Hymns being sung inside the church during the morning service could be heard outside at the scene of the crash, Salgado said. “Kind of surreal,” he said. “Violent crash outside, ethereal music inside.”
