Grass fire burns half acre in Elysian Park

An early morning grass fire scorched about a half-acre of Elysian Park near the northbound 110 Freeway and Academy Road, according to the L.A. Fire Department.

About 60 fire fighters assisted by water-drops took about an hour to put out the fire, which broke out before 5 a.m.

KTLA reports that the fire began near a homeless encampment, but the cause of the blaze remains under investigation. Two northbound freeways lanes were temporarily shut down during the fire.
