On Sunday, October 11 at 6pm, St. Athanasius Episcopal Church at the Cathedral Center of St. Paul will offer a Jazz Vespers service to the community of Echo Park. To launch the new service, the church is proud to welcome the renowned Theodicy Jazz Collective to play at the inaugural service. All members of the community and beyond are encouraged to attend this free event.  A festive reception will follow the service.

Theodicy Jazz Collective is committed to making justice real through the creative, spiritual power of music. The group believes that music has the power to promote peace and justice in society and that the jazz ideals of community, flexibility, and listening help the church thrive in a rapidly changing world. They are inspired by jazz, blues, gospel, traditional hymns, and world music. Jazz Vespers emerges as a synthesis of traditions, a blending of an age old liturgy with the unique musical language, jazz. With a freshness that is open to God’s Spirit, this musical tradition sounds the hopes, dreams, joys, frustrations and pain that expresses human experience, while exploring a musical vocabulary that transcends the limits of the written or spoken word.
