GLASSELL PARK — The neighborhood fans of pierogies and goulash have had to find alternatives since Polka Polish Restaurant and other adjacent  businesses were forced to close in July following an electrical room fire.

The fire also disrupted water and gas service at the small shopping plaza at the corner of Verdugo Road and York Boulevard on the western edge of  Glassell Park, according to Polka’s Facebook page. The plaza, which also includes a doughnut shop, hair salon and other businesses, remains fenced off.

It appears that the restaurant might have been opened intermittently since the fire, based on Yelp! reviews. It’s not clear when the restaurant will reopen permanently, with its Facebook page saying that service would resume by the end of October but its Yelp! page saying it will remain closed until Nov. 31. Stay tuned.
