MOrning Report

  • The L.A. County Board of Supervisors approved $400,000 worth of improvements to the Belvedere Park baseball field that will be partly funded by the L.A. Dodgers Foundation.  The project at East L.A.’s largest park includes new turf, irrigation, fencing, backstop, dugout roofs, scoreboards and signage, according to the office of Supervisor Hilda L. Solis. The foundation will  pick up $240,000 of the cost, with the county paying for the remainder.  The project is expected to be completed by April 2016.
  • St. Athanasius Episcopal Church in Echo Park is expected to serve free Thanksgiving Day meals – featuring 100 turkeys prepared in parishioners’ homes – to an estimated 2,500 people beginning at 11:30 a.m. All are welcome to attend the dinner and a special Eucharist (no one has to attend the service to receive the meal) beforehand. The church, located at 840 Echo Park Avenue, also invites volunteers to help out. For more information, call (213)482-2040.
