EAST LOS ANGELES  — Members of Fellowship of Light  church fanned out across the streets and parking lots of East Los Angeles early this morning to distribute handmade tamales to the homeless for Thanksgiving.

Photographer Aurelio Jose Barrera, who also helps feed East L.A. homeless,  joined the church members as they offered tamales and prayers to the street people living along Whittier and Atlantic boulevards. The same church usually distributes food on Fridays and Barrera on Sundays. Today they joined forces for the holiday.

“People were found sleeping in parking lots, bus benches and just on the street in front of well lighted businesses,” Barrera said.
