New restrooms trucked into Elysian Park

Restrooms doors

The delivery of several prefabricated restrooms at Elysian Park today attracted some double-takes as motorists and walkers on Stadium Way watched the restrooms lifted by crane from one flatbed truck to another, smaller flatbed. The units, complete with plumbing, doors, locks and signs, were then transported and put in place in the Leo Politi Picnic area. One of the workers at the site estimated that each complete restroom weighed about 42,000 pounds.

These new restrooms were installed because the existing restrooms in the Leo Politi picnic area had been vandalized. Last year every metal waste and water pipe attached to every one of the toilets in every stall had been neatly cut out and removed. It was done so cleanly and accurately that when I saw it, it took a moment to realize it wasn’t part of some improvement project.
