ELYSIAN VALLEY — Police apprehended a shooting suspect tonight in Elysian Valley following a brief pursuit that ended after the man crashed the vehicle near the junction of the 2 and 5 freeways and ran off into neighborhood streets.

The incident began in Cypress Park where police responded to a call of a shooting at about 10:30 p.m. Nobody was hit but the person who was fired upon gave a description of the vehicle involved in the shooting, said Sgt. Douglas Bowler with the LAPD Northeast Division.

A police helicopter spotted the vehicle that traveled across Cypress Park and Lincoln Heights before heading northbound on the 5 Freeway, according to police scanner reports monitored by Eagle Rock 311.  After crashing on the freeway, the suspect ran into Elysian Valley before he was apprehended on Ripple Street, Bowler said.
