Search warrants served in Debs Park killings [updated]

EL SERENO — Police have detained persons  questioning while serving search warrants this morning in connection with the killings of two women in Debs Park,  said LAPD spokesman Aareon Jefferson.

KTLA reported that a male juvenile was detained during a search for evidence near Topaz Street, a few blocks south of the where the bodies of 19-year-old Gabriela Calzada and 17-year-old Briana Gallegos were found on Oct. 28 in Debs Park. Search warrants were served at multiple locations.

The two women were friends. Calzada was preparing to begin a firefighting training program after once serving in juvenile hall. Briana Gallegos was a cheerleader at Sonia Sotomayor Learning Academies in Glassell Park.

Update @ 9: 58 PM: Police said all the people who were detained for questioning have been released and no arrests were made, according to L.A. Now.  None of the individuals were suspects or persons of interest, with one LAPD official saying that officers “wanted to talk to them and see what kind of information they had.”  Homes in El Sereno and Montecito Heights were searched by police.

UPDATE: ABC 7 reports that search warrants were served at three homes on Galena Street.
