Eight homeless after fire destroys Highland Park home; fire hits Silver Lake fourplex

  • Eight persons were left homeless after a fire destroyed a century-old house this morning in the 100 block of south Avenue 54, according to the L.A. Fire Department. It took firefighters more than two hours to put out the blaze, which began at 5:41 a.m.  One firefighter suffered an ankle injury but was in good condition, according to LAFD.
