Man injured in El Sereno shooting; a “testy” talk between Oxy president and students

MOrning Report

  • A 21-year-old man was shot twice in El Sereno Thursday night while he and two friends were sitting in a car parked near Eastern Avenue and Templeton Street,  said Sgt. Michael Morrisseau with the LAPD Hollenbeck Division.  The victim was transported to a hospital after sustaining non-life threatening wounds in the shoulder and buttocks. The shooter, who walked up to the vehicle and fired at about 11:45 p.m., fled the scene on the foot.  It’s not clear if the shooting was gang related. The three men in the car are not gang members, Morrisseau said.
  • Occidental College President Jonathan Veitch held what was described as a “testy” question and answer session with students who have demanded that he resign for failing to address allegations of racism and a lack of diversity on campus. Students were admonished at one point for laughing at several of Veitch’s answers.  The college president, who has refused to resign, conceded that he has spent too much time away fundraising for the Eagle Rock campus and planned to spend more time with students.
