Stock up now on Echo Park sandbags

ECHO PARK — After paying someone to haul away dirt, the man who is terracing and landscaping a lot on Laveta Terrace near Sunset Boulevard figured out a way to get rid of the dirt without having to pay a penny. Since October, he’s been filling up sandbags with Echo Park dirt and stacking them up next to the curb, where they are available for free or for a $2 donation.

Filling and carrying the sandbags up the hill does not look easy, and some of the bags have been ripped open by a vandal.  But the Echo Park sandbag man has persevered, saying he will be filling another 14 or so bags before this week’s expected rains begin falling.

  1. Will dirt in sandbags work? I think there’s a reason it’s called a sandbag. Dirt turns into mud, sand doesn’t.

  2. Yes, dirt will work. http://lewiscountywa.gov/sandbags-frequently-asked-questions

  3. Yes, a good solution for all. Also, firehouses have sand and bags.
