From dishwasher to top baker in Glassell Park; Silver Lake’s The Odells debuts activewear; make a run for Taco Fiesta

Aracelly Flores of Glassell Park’s Lemon Poppy Kitchen is making some of Los Angeles’ best baked goods, Los Angeles Magazine reports – though the bakery may be hard to find, since it is located in an unassuming strip mall with the sign “Bakery #1” from the previous tenant. Flores started as a dishwasher and moved up the ranks to fill the pastry case with her delightful homey cakes, buttery biscuits, muffins and scones. She also bakes up the Latin-inspired empanadas and picos as well as a Romanian flatbread known as planchinitas. Lemon Poppy Kitchen is located on the 3300 block of Verdugo Road in Glassell Park.
