EL SERENO —  The driver of a small car was killed this morning after colliding with a trash truck in El Sereno.

The victim was driving westbound in the 5000 block of Alhambra Avenue when the driver lost control and veered into the eastbound lane, colliding with the trash truck operated by a private waste hauler at about 6:21 a.m., officials said. The victim received blunt force injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by the L.A. Fire Department, said Sgt Custard of the LAPD’s Central Traffic Division. The driver of the trash truck was not injured.

Police are still on the scene.

Update:  The victim has been identified as 21-year-old Jesus Andres Padilla of Los Angeles, according to the LAPD Central Traffic division.

Padilla was driving at least 50 miles per hour in his 1991 Ford Mustang before the crash when he was passing another vehicle and lost control.  “Padilla’s vehicle rotated in a counter clockwise direction and drifted into the path of privately owned garbage truck traveling eastbound on Alhambra Avenue,” according to an LAPD advisory. “It did not appear that drugs or alcohol was involved and reports of street racing were unsupported.”
