Highland Park gunman apprehended at his home

HIGHLAND PARK — A man was arrested early this morning at his home after brandishing a gun in public in two different occasions in Highland Park and Cypress Park, police said

The suspect first displayed his gun at a Highland Park liquor store near the intersection of Avenue 51 and York Boulevard.  He later pointed his gun at a person in the street near the Avenue 26 and Idell Street at around 11:30 p.m. Monday, said an officer at the LAPD’s Northeast Division.

The man was apprehended after police responded to a call from a home in the 100 block of Avenue 50, which turned out to be the suspect’s residence.  The suspect’s sister told police that he had been “acting weird,” police said.

Officer realized that the suspect fit the description of the man who had been brandishing the gun earlier in the evening.  Police took him into custody shortly after midnight.
