elysian park stabbing

Police have closed off a section of Stadium Way near the Dodger ballpark this afternoon after a male transient was tasered and stabbed by another transient following an argument in Elysian Park.

The victim, described as a Latino in his 50s was taken to a hospital and is reported in stable condition, said LAPD spokesman Mike Lopez.

The suspect was described as an Asian male in his 50s. Early reports indicate that he was detained by a citizen until police arrived,  Lopez said.

The stabbing took place after 5 pm on Stadium Way near Scott Avenue.  Evening commuters who normally use Stadium Way are being diverted to side streets.

Update @ 6:25  pm:  Stadium Way has been reopened to traffic.

  1. Well, that rules out Ben Carson…

  2. Wait … a transient had a Taser?

    • Yes pretty poor reporting, You can’t tell who shot the taser. And why are we merely describing a suspect when he is a known person in custody, — the story says he was held until police arrived, so I have to presume (and good reporting should not leave me presuming anything) that he is in custody — tell who you’re talking about, not just a race and age. With the taser, yes, that opens big questions — is that guy really even a transient? You can’t just take press release crap from the police, little of that is real or true. Maybe the person who held him for ice had the taser and he shot it — but then that opens questions about how that guy got involved in it. If so, from the order you wrote it, you lead us to another presumption that he was first tased – maybe by the guy who held him — and then stabbed.

      This report is a mess.

      • Again, tell me why you can’t take the press release from the police? You seriously think two transients fighting warrants the police to lie?! That’s so dumb…..

  3. I’m guessing the Dodgers were happy that it wasn’t Stadium Way getting renamed for Vin Scully today.

  4. I’m waiting for the major news agencies to spin it that they were mentally ill! Lol.

    That’s the newest excuse……

    • I don’t know about “excuse” but the majority of homeless people in Los Angeles do suffer from a (untreated) mental illness. Its more of a fact than an excuse.

    • Mental illness is not an ‘excuse’. It’s in many cases a crippling disease. People who are severely mentally ill need help,, and deserve to be treated w the same respect as people suffering from other diseases. Most homeless people are indeed mentally ill, and some as a result are a danger to themselves and others.
