  • Joe Bass, a musician and bartender at Echo Park’s Short Stop bar, died last month after battling prostate cancer. Bass, who was an Echo Park resident, was 57. L.A. Weekly

  1. Sad to hear about Joe. I didn’t know he was sick, but I haven’t been in for a few years. I have great memories of him running the old joint. He always had a cool lively attitude, juggling drinks, encouraging you to pick tracks on the juke box. My many memories of him behind the bar are fantastic. Condolences to his family.
