Sprouts preps for Eagle Rock grand opening; head to Colorado Boulevard for veggie tacos; Silver Lake gift shop moves to Echo Park


Crowds are expected at the grand opening of Sprouts Farmers Market in Eagle Rock on Wednesday, May 11, 7 a.m., with festivities continuing throughout the weekend, according to a company press release.

On grand opening day, there’ll be a 20% discount for the first 200 shoppers in line. Freebies include muffin and coffee samples for folks waiting in line prior to its opening and a reusable bag for every customer. Grand opening day shoppers can also find one-dollar deals throughout the store. During the week, unsold and edible but unmarketable items will be donated to the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank as part of the company’s local Food Rescue Program.

Sprouts Farmers Market is located on the 2200 block of Yosemite Drive in Eagle Rock.

  • Colorado Boulevard in Eagle Rock is home to three of the city’s best vegetarian tacos, according to the LA Weekly. The calabacitas taco at Cacao Mexicatessen was mentioned for its healthy squash option. Two tacos from Organix also received a nod: The Jesse Taco – with its portobello mushrooms marinated in pebre, or Chilean salsa, and its chipotle vegan mayo – and the spicy jackfruit “barbacoa” taco, for its zesty flavor. Cacao Mexicatessen is located on the 1500 block of Colorado Boulevard; Organix is located on the 1700 block of Colorado Boulevard.
  • Gift shop Hemingway & Pickett has landed in Echo Park after spending five years in Silver Lake, reports Racked LA. The store offers accessories, home goods, designer handbags and stationery. In celebration of its five-year anniversary and new location, H&P is hosting a reopening party on Saturday, May 7 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Hemingway & Pickett is located on the 1900 block of Echo Park Avenue in Echo Park.
  • After three years in business, Angelus Salads in Echo Park has shuttered, according to a Facebook posting. The salad, sandwich and juice bar closed their Sunset shop across from Walgreens last month. No reason was given for the closure.
