Park goers found the body of a man hanging from a tree in Elysian Park on Sunday afternoon, police said.

There were no signs of foul play, and the incident is being treated as a suicide, said Sgt. Frank Gonzalez with the LAPD Northeast Division. The man appeared to be 30 years of age. Police had no further details available.

An Eastsider reader who was hiking in the park at around 3 pm near the Elysian Reservoir said he saw firefighters and other workers pulling the body up a hillside in a stretcher.

Updated: A video from LoudLab News indicates that the man’s body was found near the Point Grand View overlook above the reservoir.

  1. From the video at the time of the body being recovered, police say they got a phone call at about 2 p.m. Sunday about a “suicide in progress.” Of course, with nothing more explained, what “in progress” means, who knows, maybe someone getting into the noose or maybe someone hanging already. They were just recovering the boy at that point to send it to the coroner, who will do the autopsy.
