Trash spill blocks Echo Park street after dump truck catches fire [updated]

ECHO PARK — What was with that giant pile of trash on Glendale Boulevard this morning? A city dump truck unloaded the trash on northbound Glendale near Berkeley Avenue after some of the items that had been collected started to burn, said Paul Gomez, a spokesman for the L.A. Department of Public Works. Traffic was backed up as motorists waited for crews to to clean up the mess.
