Bowling for bargains in Northeast L.A.

Highland Park Bowl | Martha Benedict

By BRENDA REES

With the opening of the restored Highland Park Bowl in April, there’s a renewed interest in the art of knocking down pins in an alley both as sport and recreation. After all, bowling is socially ecumenical: it’s a great place for kids birthday parties, fun for families, the perfect second date for teens, social outlet for seniors, college bonding, Father’s Day Fun, the list goes on,

But how do bowling alleys rank for the budget-minded? The $70-an hour fee commanded by the renovated Highland Park Bowl on Friday and Saturday nights did raise some eyebrows for those who consider bowling cheap for of entertainment. But that $70-an-hour fee covers up to six players, so it can still be a relatively inexpensive night out for a group of friends or family.

We did a little exploration and discovered what a trip to the lanes could cost in NELA and beyond.
