Boyle Heights man thought it was a firework; turns out he was hit by a gunshot

BOYLE HEIGHTS — A man shot in the buttocks in Boyle Heights Monday night told police that he initially thought it was a firework.

The victim was hit at around 9:30 p.m. near the intersection of Michigan Avenue and Soto Street, said Sgt. Miguel Lopez with LAPD’s Hollenbeck Division.

Police said they do not know if the shooting was gang related because the victim was uncooperative. “He said he thought [the gunshot] was a firework,” said Lopez.

The victim said he did not see the shooter or a vehicle. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital to be treated for his injury.
