HIGHLAND PARK — What is a cruffin? Take croissant dough, stuff it with cream (and other fillings), bake it in a muffin tin and, voila!, you have a cruffin and a baked goods sensation. The cruffin is one of the many tasty treats coming out of the ovens of San Francisco based Mr. Holmes Bakehouse, which is apparently in the final phases of opening up a store and bakery in Highland Park
The company has spent several months renovating a small building on Avenue 59 off of Figueroa, where “August 2016” have been written several times on the large front windows. Inside the Art Deco-style structure, a neon sign reading “I GOT BAKED IN LOS ANGELES” has been installed on one wall (a similar sign in the company’s original store reads “I GOT BAKED IN SAN FRANCISCO.”
The Eastsider has contacted Mr. Holmes Bakehouse for more details.
In addition to cruffins, Mr. Holmes’ Bay Area fans have lined up for the bakery’s doughnuts, danishes, brioches, cookies and other baked goods.
Update: Mr. Holmes Bakehouse plans to open its Highland Park location in mid-August, according to a company employee. “We are super excited to get open and start serving up carbs to the neighborhood!! Our opening is planned for mid-August.”
