Residents of Echo Park and Silver Lake reported seeing a large cloud of smoke rising to the west. The smoke is from a brush fire burning near Cahuenga Boulevard near the 101 Freeway in Hollywood, the L.A. Fire Department says on Twitter. No homes are threatened but more than 100 firefighters are on the scene and water-dropping aircraft are being prepared.

Update @ 6:25 pm: 50% of the fire has been contained and several LAFD units have been released from the scene. But it will be “several more hours” before the fire is fully contained. About 18 acres were burned. There were no reports of injuries or damage to structures.

Update @ 4:39 pm: More than 200 firefighters have been deployed. There are “NON-Mandatory” evacuations on Holly Drive.

Update @ 4:10 pm: The fire has grown to about 12 to 14 acres but firefighters have encircled the blaze, which is moving slowly, according to LAFD.
