Fire burns vacant house in Echo Park area [updated]

ECHO PARK — The L.A. Fire Department is working to put out a fire in what is described as a vacant home in the 900 block of Everett Street north of Sunset Boulevard. The fire began at about 5:30 p.m. No further details available.

UPDATE @ 6 p.m.: The fire has been knocked down. It took 78 firefighters 36 minutes to put out the fire, according to LAFD.  Arson investigators have been called to scene, according to comments on LAFD scanner.

  2. On Saturday evening there was a fire on the hill behind the Glassellland sign (not the hill immediately behind it, but the one above the houses that are right behind the sign). Produced a fair amount of smoke, but the LAFD put it out quickly. Caused by a kid lighting a firework.
