Man dies after 2 Freeway crash in Glassell Park


GLASSELL PARK –– An early morning collision on the southbound 2 Freeway at San Fernando Road left one man dead and prompted the closure of traffic lanes for about three hours.

The collision was reported shortly after 4 a.m. when the driver of a Toyota Corolla lost control of his vehicle and collided with a Mercedes sedan, according to a statement issued by the California Highway Patrol. The Corolla then struck a palm tree along the shoulder of the freeway and fell down the embankment, coming to rest on the offamp. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The CHP did not have information about the man’s identity. The driver of the Mercedes, a 43-year-old woman, suffered minor injuries.

The collision remains under investigation.
