Echo Park & Silver Lake pizza shakeup

Former Silver Lake PIzza Hut

Former Silver Lake PIzza Hut

Shopper and Diner buttonMany pizza fans across Echo Park and Silver Lake are asking “Where did my pizza place go?” following the recent closure of a trio of pizza outlets.

In Echo Park, residents still trying to get over the closure of Pizza Buona at the end of last year, now have to contend with the shutdown of the Los Angeles Pizza Company at the end of July. L.A. Pizza, which will be replaced by a bar and restaurant by the owners of the nearby Ostrich Farm restaurant, is said to be looking for a new location.

Meanwhile, in Silver Lake, the Pizza Hut take-out next to the Trader Joe’s on Hyperion Avenue closed permanently on August 15 with no word on what will move in to take its place.

In the shopping center next door,  short-lived Silver Lake outlet of ZPizza closed several weeks ago. A Jersey Mike’s Subs is opening in the same space.

  1. I hope the message to chain pizza restaurants is that they are not wanted in Silver Lake!!

  2. I hope the restaurant replacing l.a. pizza is not as expensive as Ostrich Farm…

  3. How’s Wood doing?

I like Wood’s pizza, salads and sandwiches. Quality ingredients. I’ve had their food 5 or 6 times and haven’t been disappointed. I hope they’re busy.

  4. I miss Nicky D’s. That place was the real deal.

  5. I think people are jsut starting to cook more at home because they realize how cheap and healthier it is to actually make a pizza at home using dough from TJ’s, or 365 or what have you and using fresher ingredients. There was no need to order from Pizza Butt for years now.

  6. No tears shed for either Z Pizza or Pizza Hut! Mediocre chain pizza that would last 20 minutes in NY. There is still good pizza nearby at Tomato Pie and Garage Pizza.

  7. Pizza Hut was definitely mediocre, and Icky at Best. Good riddance.

  8. I just need Pizza Buona (and Brooklyn Bagels while we’re at it) back in my life.

  9. Call Rafallo’s. They are better than all the ones closed.

  10. I miss Hard Times

  11. I miss Nick D’s pizza a lot. Pizza Hut sucked for sure but at least it was fast and cheap. Tomato Pie is highly overrated. I have yet to have a good pizza there. Its also way overpriced and the delivery takes forever. Michaelangelos has good pizza. Would love to hear any other recommendations.
