Motorist killed in 5 Freeway crash in Elysian Valley



ELYSIAN VALLEY — A car speeding on the 5 Freeway in Elysian Valley collided with a big-rig truck early this morning, leaving one man dead.

CHP officers responded to a 911 call of the collision at about 1:30 a.m., according to a statement released by California Highway Patrol. The driver of a white BMW was headed northbound on the freeway near Riverside Drive when he collided into the rear of the truck. Witnesses told the CHP that the BMW driver was traveling in excess of 100 mph.

The driver, a 29-year-old male, was pronounced dead at the scene. A 21-year-old female passenger was transported to a hospital to be treated for minor injuries. The big rig driver was not injured.

The collision is currently under investigation.

  1. Very glad the big-rig driver and passenger are all right. The speeding driver at least took no one else with him.
