HIGHLAND PARK — Residents are reporting a significant amount of police activity – including a large number of squad cars and a police helicopter circling overhead – tonight near York Boulevard and San Pasqual Avenue on the border of Highland Park and Garvanza.  Twitter user Simply Informed, which tracks police scanner channels,  reported  an “Officer Down” in Garvanza but an LAPD spokesman did not yet have any details of what happened.

Update @ 9:54 pm: It appears that an officer might have had a “medical emergency,”  according to LAPD spokesman Drake Madison. He stressed that was based on preliminary information and had no details about the medical emergency. One person was in custody in connection with the incident, he said.

Update @ 10:28 pm: The officer is in stable condition after suffering a medical emergency while a suspect was being taken into custody, Madison said.  There was no shooting.
