  • A suspected vehicle thief being pursued by officers was struck and killed while running across the northbound 101 Freeway in Boyle Heights this morning. The 25-year-old man ran into freeway lanes after crashing the SUV as he exited on Fourth Street. A SigAlert was declared and the northbound 101 was closed for several hours.L.A. Now
  • A Metrolink locomotive sustained minor exterior damage after it derailed on Tuesday at the commuter railway’s central maintenance yard in Cypress Park.  The derailment occurred at about 5:30 pm when a coupler broke while four locomotives were being moved, said a Metrolink official. The equipment rolled down a slight decline, pushing the Tier 4 locomotive off the tracks. The locomotive was not in service; no injuries were reported. Crews spent Tuesday night putting the locomotive back on the tracks and assessing the damage.
  • Cal State L.A. was ranked No. 14 among public regional universities in the West in the most recent survey of best colleges by U.S. News & World. Last year the El Sereno school came in at No. 18. Cal State L.A.
