MOrning Report

  • Three years after their father was slain in his Silver Lake home, Assemblyman Mike Gatto is involved in a legal battle with his sister over a provision in their father’s will.  The siblings are fighting over a family heirloom – a cradle made by Sam Maloof that could be worth as much as $60,000. Mike Gatto wants to keep the crib for sentimental reasons but his sister, Nicole, wants to sell the item as instructed by their father, Joseph Gatto, in his will. Los Feliz Ledger
  • The American Civil Liberties Union has filed a federal lawsuit over 46 gang injunctions, including those that apply to Boyle Heights and Echo Park, that the group claims violate the civil rights of thousands of people. KPCC

  1. re the Gatto story – Gatto is/was a skilled attorney — he should “buy” the cradle at FMV and add the proceeds to the estate, offset by his % share of the estate. Issue resolved.

I feel for that family. Losing their father tragically like that. I hope they are able to mend their broken family.

  2. Congrats on winning your latest journalism award, EastsiderLA! We all appreciate your blog so much!!!

  3. The lawsuit against the gang injunctions states: “The ACLU lawsuit does not question the effectiveness of the injunctions, but it does harshly criticize the way the city obtains them.”

Hilarious. They all but admit that the gang injunctions have worked flawlessly to decimate gang related activity in Los Angeles since the 80’s, but they frown upon the methods… of course.

In an non-traditional war, there is no perfect solution. But you need to crack a few eggs to make breakfest and the alternative is letting LA get overrun by gangs again… which does not bode well.

  4. I love that photo! The color is so vibrant! Go fungus!
