Free parking to end at Griffith Observatory; City Council to vote on Boyle Heights hospital landmark nomination; Columbus Day closures

  • Motorists headed to the Griffith Observatory  will be charged $4 to park under a plan intended to reduce traffic congestion. Los Feliz Ledger
  • The City Council is scheduled to decide on Tuesday whether the former Japanese Hospital in Boyle Heights will be declared a city historic landmark. The hospital was constructed in 1929 when Japanese immigrants and Japanese Americans faced discrimination and sometimes were turned away at public medical facilities.  City of L.A.
  • City, county and federal offices and will be closed on Monday for the Columbus Day Holiday. But state offices, colleges and L.A. Unified schools will be open. Daily News
