Restaurant in the works for former Silver Lake doughnut shop

Tang's Donuts

Storefront ReportSILVER LAKE —  The patio at Tang’s Donuts once hosted lively chess and backgammon games and served as the weekly starting point for the nighttime bike rides of the Wolfpack Hustle.  But the outdoor tables have been empty and the patio deserted for nearly three years since Tang’s closed, leaving a void at the busy junction of Sunset Boulevard  and Fountain Avenue. Now, there’s a plan to open a new restaurant in the same spot.

The city’s Planning Department has received an application seeking permission to serve beer and wine as part of a 54-seat restaurant, with 34 of those seats located in the patio. The proposed hours of operation are from 9 a.m. to 4 a.m. everyday. The serving of alcohol, however, would stop at 2 a.m.

A Planning Department summary says the applicant is RJ Singh with PUBLINQ, LLC. The address for PUBLINQ is that of the Sirtaj Beverly Hills hotel, which was opened by RJ Singh and his father, Navraj.  The father-son-team also operated several other restaurants in the Los Angeles area, including the former Tantra restaurant in Silver Lake.

What will the new restaurant be called and what will it serve? Will backgammon players and bicyclists be allowed on the patio? Stay tuned.

  1. Across the street at Cobalt I used to sit at the host stand next to the bullet holes from the hotel now art installation also across the street. Sorry if this isn’t relevant to the story, but that’s what I thought of when I saw this photo.

  2. I will boycott. Beverly Hills out of touch morons will never replace Tangs which was pushed out by a greedy landlord.

  3. omg Tantra sucked so much and stayed open for so long with no one ever going there
