Bomb scare shuts down Echo Park streets [updated]

ECHO PARK — Sunset Boulevard has been blocked tonight as police investigate a box that was left at a bus stop near Sunset Boulevard and Echo Park Avenue.

Police were called to the scene at about 8:30 pm, said Officer Wendy Reyes. The bomb squad was investigating the matter but she had no further details.

Streets remained closed by police at 11 p.m.

It’s the second bomb scare in Echo Park during the past month. On Oct. 13,  Sunset was closed near Douglas after empty suitcases left near the Super 8 motel prompted a bomb squad investigation.

Update: The bomb squad determined there was no explosive device at about 1 a.m., said a police spokeswoman.
