SILVER LAKE — Sara Greene, a long time resident of Echo Park and Silver Lake, took time off from producing commercials and music videos to care for her daughter and devote more time to her writing. That’s how she ended up authoring a children’s book — Los Angeles 1 to 10 — that reflects the fun and diversity of L.A.

Inspiration: “We lived in Toronto, Canada for the first 8 months of my daughter’s life. Our friends there gifted us really cute Canada and Toronto themed books for our new baby. I was excited to buy the LA versions when we got home. The surprisingly few LA books that I found felt auto-generated by a tourist guide. Walk of fame, Venice muscle beach, things tourists do, not people who actually live here. Nothing captured the distinct charm and inspiring diversity of Los Angeles. So I decided to try to do it myself.”

Book Summary: “Los Angeles 1 to 10” introduces numbers and counting through pleasing rhymes and the distinct imagery of Los Angeles. This brightly colored board book celebrates the city’s diversity from the hills of Griffith Park to the music of Mariachi Plaza to the breezes of the Pacific Ocean.

Here Are Some of the Rhymes:

1 Griffith Observatory high on a bluff.
2 NBA teams, one was not enough.
3 Watts Towers standing tall above the rest.
4 Avocados California grows the best.

Los Angeles 1 to 10 is available online or in neighborhood shops.
