This year’s list of 101 best restaurants compiled by the L.A. Times’ critic Jonathan Gold includes two spots in Silver Lake, a mariscos truck in Boyle Heights and an upscale taqueria in Elysian Valley. In Silver Lake, Gold touted Kris Yenbamroong — “he’s pretty much the face of Thai cooking in Los Angeles” — of Night + Market Song restaurant as well as Zach Pollack’s Northern Italian restaurant, Alimento. The Mariscos Jalisco truck in Boyle Heights made the cut with a shrimp taco that “will be fried crisp around the edges but slightly leathery toward its middle, moistened with a fresh chop of tomatoes and onions, with a bit of ripe avocado on the side.” In Elysian Valley, Salazar, which opened only a few months ago in a former auto body repair shop, won praise for carne asada that “is simple but perfect, grilled over blazing hot mesquite, chopped and stuffed into a flour tortilla.”
