  • The L.A. school board has decided against moving the start of the school year closer to Labor Day in response to complaints that the current schedule interrupts family vacations and forces students to study in hot classrooms. Instead, the board voted to maintain the same calendar, with the school year beginning about three weeks before Labor Day in mid-August.  KPCC
