ATWATER VILLAGE —  A large tree fell on a van on Tyburn Street near Glenhurst Avenue today as a storm moved through the area. Crews from the L.A. DWP were on the scene this morning but workers were still trying to clear up the mess tonight.  There have been no reports of injuries.

Update on Saturday, Dec. 18: A company called Urban Logs to Lumber, which recycles fallen or damaged trees, was in Atwater today to cut up and haul away the tree, which a deodar cedar, says Kevin Kuzma.

  1. If a tree falls on Atwater, everyone hears about it.

  2. That’s a deodar cedar, native to the Himalayas. Relatively young, probably only about 40 years old. Most around town were planted between the 1880s and 1920s.

A mobile sawmill will likely be turning the trunk into furniture-grade lumber tomorrow.
