Pancakes from Highland Park and Silver Lake make it to the top of the stack

Storefront ReportTwo Eastside breakfast spots made Los Angeles Magazine’s list of “12 Pancakes in L.A. to Try Before You Die.”

In Highland Park, try the gluten-free pancakes at Kitchen Mouse – a combination of corn, buckwheat and oat flour, spiced with cinnamon and topped with berries and toasted coconut. This Figueroa Street restaurant also won the magazine’s Best of L.A. award for gluten-free pancakes. For the kids, Kitchen Mouse adds silver-dollar pancakes to their children’s special.

In Silver Lake, there’s the pancakes at Modern Eats, which are served with either house-made Fiji apple compote or fresh fruit. The reviewer said she detected hints of cardamom in the batter.

Kitchen Mouse is located in the 5900 block of Figueroa Street in Highland Park. Modern Eats is located in the 2500 block of Glendale Boulevard in Silver Lake.

  1. I’ve eaten all of these pancakes and don’t know why Modern Eats was included. #pancakes

  2. I love Kitchen Mouse for everything on the menu including their pancakes but the line to order is so long these days I’ve stopped going. Unfortunately these articles are likely to exacerbate the problem.
