Elysian Valley’s Portlandia connection; $750,000 donation to boost Boyle Heights graduation rates

  • Portlandia is set in Portland but it’s written in Elysian Valley, AKA Frogtown. Fred Armisen, one of the creators and actors of the IFC show that skewers the terminally hip, tells the New York Times: “We’re in an area called Frogtown, which is near Silver Lake. It’s an industrial area that’s already starting to turn. Little shops are opening up everywhere.”
  • Promesa, a group of 20 groups and schools dedicated to raising the high school graduation rate in Boyle Heights, received a $750,000 grant from AT&T. Boyle Heights Beat
